It's Hump Day

So much time has gone by since my last post. I became a year older on Monday. I had a real nice birthday. Thanks Doug & Kayla. I also applied for a job on Monday. The school I sub at has an opening for a Kindergarten Aide for the rest of the school year. The principal asked me to apply for it--which I did. I haven't heard anything yet.
Kayla gets out of school early on Friday and then will be out of school on Monday. She's doing so good in school. In fact her Spanish teacher, Mrs. Cary Peterson, nominated Kayla for Who's Who. On Friday, they are having a Pizza Party for the UIL kids. Kayla is really upset because also on that day they are having a pep rally. They are doing all of this on a half day of school.
I was supposed to work tomorrow but that just got cancelled. Not much else to report.

Happy New Year

Well once again, I fell down on posting on my blog. I can't believe a whole month went by with out me posting. I guess I could blame it on getting ready for Christmas and the new year but that wouldn't be fair because that wasn't the only reason. I just fell down on the job.
Christmas was a good time considering everything that went wrong. We usually celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner at my aunt's house. But my dad and brother told me that Aunt Birdie said that she wasn't up to doing Christmas Eve because when she fixed Thanksgiving meal for her son and his girlfriend-it took too much out of her. Well that was okay because Dad's girlfriend, Charlotte, said that she would do the Christmas Eve dinner. My aunt was still going to do the Christmas Day meal. Well we went to Dad's for Christmas eve and had a wonderful time and then we came home and opened gifts from each other. Then early Christmas Day my aunt called me and said there was just no way that she could do Christmas Day. She did tell me to come by and get the few things that she had and maybe I could make a meal. I stopped by and gave her - her Christmas gifts and picked up what she had. Well of course none of us had gone to the store the day before to get things. So I made dressing and had to improvise on a few of the ingredients. But everyone said it turned out good.
After eating and cleaning up at Dad's, we then went to Doug's parents and had a small celebration with them. Exchanged a few more gifts. Had a good time.
Then we got ready for the new year. On New Year's Eve, I received a phone call from Dad at around 11:30pm--He needed me to come to his house immediately--Charlotte had passed out in the kitchen floor. I start rushing to his house (now I live 10 miles away) so as soon as I pull out on the highway, I call my brother, Skip, and tell him to get down to the house and stay with Dad. Dad was alone when my mom died a year and a half ago. I'm thinking that Charlotte's blood sugar has probably dropped but can't rule out a stroke since she's had a small one since she and Dad have been together. I get to Dad's house and Charlotte has come to and is sitting on the floor. I ask her is she thinks she can get to the couch with our help. She said she thought she could. Brenda, Skip's wife had already given her some orange juice. We get her to the couch and she gets sick and loses the orange juice. I tell Dad to get me hard candy and I give it to her to suck on. A short time later, we take her blood sugar and it's up. She now tells everyone that I have saved her life. I get home just in time to celebrate the ringing in of the new year, or should I say the blowing in of the new year. Kayla always blows Doug's air horn on the wrecker to bring in the new year. We then go in the house and all toast in the year.
On New Year's Day, I fix the traditional black eye peas and cabbage along with a ham. I take Dad and Charlotte a plate and then we go to Doug's parents for a New Year's Day meal. After getting home, Dad and Charlotte come and get Kayla and I and take us to see the log house they are having built. It was a nice day.
On Saturday, Kayla and I get up early and drive down to Damon, Texas so I can show her where her Great-Grandparents are buried. I haven't been there since 1980. After visiting the gravesites, she wants to go to Alvin to see where I used to live. We drove on to Alvin and I showed her several of the places I had lived and all the different schools that I had attended. After that we drove on to Humble where we both got our hair cut and then we drove on home.
Sunday, we didn't do much except go to Church and then drove to Center and got our usual 200 pounds of dog food. Yep, I said 200 pounds and it will last only two weeks. But then we have 11 dogs that we are feeding.
Today, Kayla started back to school and will get her third report card on Thursday. That's about all I can tell you now.
